Notion Mail shuts down as Notion shifts email workflows to AI
The standalone Notion Mail inbox is closing, but Notion is keeping Gmail-connected AI features and agent email tools alive.
What changed
Notion Mail shuts down on 22 September 2026 across all plans. Because the inbox synchronized with Gmail, sent and received email remains in Gmail. Notion says drafts, scheduled emails, snippets and auto label instructions that lived only in Notion Mail needed to be saved or exported before shutdown.
Some Notion-specific inbox behavior does not transfer. Custom organization and sorting do not move to Gmail, email reminders do not transfer, and previously synced email database views stop receiving new messages. Existing synced messages remain accessible.
What stays
Notion is not abandoning email integration altogether. Its Gmail AI Connector, existing mail blocks and AI agent tools that use Gmail continue to work. That makes this less a retreat from email data and more a change in how Notion wants users to work with it.
Why it matters for buyers
Software buyers should separate Notion's core workspace and AI proposition from the discontinued standalone inbox. Teams evaluating Notion as an email client should remove that use case from the decision. Teams evaluating Notion for AI-assisted work across Gmail can still consider the remaining connector and agent capabilities, but should verify that those workflows cover the tasks they previously expected from Notion Mail.
